Coffee Table

In Europe, the first coffee tables appear to have been made in Britain during the late Victorian era. There are no documents from the 17th and 18th century mentioning coffee tables although there are hundreds of references about coffee houses during the time period. It is speculated that the name tea table was changed to coffee table because coffee became more popular than tea. When coffee tables became increasingly popular in the 20th century, it was not unknown for the table legs, and therefore it had to be shortened to be termed as a ‘coffee table’. The fad has gradually spread and today it has increasingly become an integral piece of furniture that homeowners never miss while decorating their homes.
