The Rio Rocking Chair, striking for its unconventional curves, was born out of the architect’s frustration. This piece is an original reedition, licensed by the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation—the holder of the copyrights—and produced and exclusively commercialized under the ETEL registered trademark. It bears dual certification of origin and authenticity, issued by both the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation and ETEL.
For Oscar Niemeyer, the furniture of the 1970s did not resonate with the architectural production emerging at the time:
“We sought a new furniture design that would allow us, through the use of pressed wood, to imagine forms different from traditional furniture. As this idea was closely aligned with architectural technique, we aimed to reduce supports, integrating them into the adopted curved forms. Thus we designed armchairs, tables, daybeds, rocking loungers, and so on. One day, if work permits, we will return to this task in a more organized way—a task that attracts and delights us.
